EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The Butler women's soccer team took a 1-0 loss at Evansville on Friday night. Abby Springer came up with an unassisted goal in the 33rd minute of play to give the Purple Aces their fourth win of the season.

Evansville (4-2-0) came out aggressive in the first half of action to grab the 1-0 lead. Springer let a shot fly from 20 yards out to give the Purple Aces the game-winner as her attempt sailed just inside the far post to net the score.  

"Once again a soft goal put us in the position of having to chase the game," Co-Head Coach Tari St. John said. "We are playing a lot of attractive soccer, but not winning games. This team has a lot to learn in terms of making ourselves tougher to beat."

The Bulldogs responded well in the second half and stood up to the challenge of playing down on the road. After being out-shot 7-1 in the first half, Butler came up with 10 shots in the second stanza compared to just four from Evansville.

"We played well and were very slick in possession tonight, but were lacking the quality we needed in the final third to score goals," St. John added. "Our composure was lacking in the box when we were completely dominant in the second half and should have scored."

Simone Busby made all five of her saves against Butler in the second half. The offensive surge was led by senior forward Elise Kotsakis who had two shots on goal. Sophia Maccagnone, Annie Weber and Kathryn Voelker each added one.

Jayne Heinrich was tagged with the loss as the BU goalkeeper. The sophomore faced three shots on goal, making two saves.

The Bulldogs will return to action this Sunday, Sept. 7 to host IPFW in the 2014 home opener. The match will begin at 1 p.m.
