Joining Goodwin with a breakout performance at Marquette was senior forward Ijeoma Uchendu who hit 11-of-15 from the field for 23 points. The game started off with a 5-0 run from Marquette, but the Bulldogs found their stride moments later to tie the score at 10-10. Yet another 5-0 scoring run from the Golden Eagles would give Marquette the lead for a majority of the first half, but Butler would keep within striking distance making the opening 20 minutes very entertaining. Butler grabbed momentum on the road by finishing the first half on a 7-0 run. Obert scored off a nice pass from Uchendu to cut the Marquette lead to just two and the Bulldogs would take the lead moments later off a 3-point field goal from Langlois. The final 20 minutes helped change the outcome as Butler shot 51 percent compared to just 31 percent for the home team. Butler didn't shoot the long ball well on Sunday, but they were able to keep pace with Marquette as the Golden Eagles went 0-for-11 from behind the arc.
Butler led by as many as nine points in the second half, but a 10-4 run from Marquette would get the Golden Eagles within two points with 8:28 to play. Uchendu stepped up for Butler to score four-straight points for the Bulldogs to rebuild the lead and Marquette would never get closer allowing Butler to secure the 76-67 win.
