@ButlerWSoccer Tops Georgetown 1-0

Box Score

INDIANAPOLIS – The Butler women's soccer team picked up a huge win on Sunday afternoon by defeating the Georgetown Hoyas by the final score of 1-0. The Bulldogs are the first team to earn a win against Georgetown as the Hoyas fall to 3-1 in league play with the loss. Butler picked up their 10th win of the season this afternoon at the Butler Bowl, moving their conference mark to 3-2.

"I thought we did a really good job of executing the game plan," Assistant Coach Rob Klatte stated after the match. "I thought we were organized and the back line did a fantastic job of preventing them from getting behind us."

The game-winning goal came in the opening minutes of the first half as Serina Kashimoto lifted the 'Dawgs to victory with her fourth goal of the season. The play started with a throw-in from Jamison Midgley. Midgley went to Halle Stelbasky with the pass and the freshman quickly moved the ball to Kashimoto.

Kashimoto fired a shot from the right side of the field that struck the crossbar. The ball directed down to the bottom left corner of the goal which resulted in the 1-0 lead.

Each team continued to attack for the remainder of the game, but the lone goal of the match from Kashimoto would stand as the only points of the day. Paige Monaghan had a great shot on goal in the second half, but it was saved by Emma Newins to keep the Hoyas alive. Halle Stelbasky led the team with four shots on goal.

Newins was in the scorebook with five saves, but the win went to Madison Card who ended the contest with two stops. Georgetown out-shot Butler 12-9 and also won the corner kick battle 5-3.

"Our outside backs were fantastic against some very, very dangerous forwards," Klatte added. "I think that helped us reduce the amount of shots that our goalkeeper had to face."

The Bulldogs have now faced three of the top teams in the BIG EAST standings with one-goal losses to both St. John's and DePaul. They will return to action next Sunday with a 1 PM road match at Seton Hall. Coverage can be viewed live on the BIG EAST Digital Network.
