The match between Butler and Georgetown was tight from start to finish. Eight lead changes and 29 ties were recorded over the four set match with the pivotal third going into extra points at 29-27. The 'Dawgs won the third and used that momentum to hold off the Hoyas in the fourth to earn their third conference win of the season.
The first set went to Georgetown with the Hoyas breaking a 19-19 tie to post a 25-22 win. Georgetown took a timeout with the match knotted up at 19-19 and responded by scoring two straight out of the break. Butler climbed back into the mix at 21-20, but a second run would get the Hoyas to set point at 24-20. BU fought to the very end, but a kill from Liv King would give the visitors the early 1-0 lead.
Set two was very similar to set one as the two clubs once again came together at 19-19. This time Butler outplayed Georgetown in crunch time to pick up a 25-21 lead. The 'Dawgs scored two-straight to push the lead to 21-19, but the Hoyas would answer with back-to-back points. Butler's second run would be the difference in tying the match at 1-1 as they ended the set by scoring the final four points to earn the win.
It seems as if Butler would run away with set three to take the 2-1 lead into the fourth, but an impressive comeback from Georgetown sent the action into extra points. BU led 16-8 midway through the action, but a Georgetown scoring run would pull the two teams even at 23-23. Neither team could come up with back to back points as the scoreboard featured five ties late in the contest moving the match to 27-27. Butler was the first team to 28 as Striedl found room for a kill off a Ferguson assist and the match ended quickly after on a Georgetown attack error.
The end of set three looked much like the start of set four as the teams battled back and forth to a 10-10 tie. The biggest run of the match would follow with Butler opening up a 17-11 advantage thanks to the hot serve from Beck. Georgetown would fight back to get within four, but the damage was already done giving Butler the win.
The 'Dawgs will only play one match next weekend as they travel to Cincinnati to face their travel partner in Xavier. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
