Box Score SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – The Bulldogs recorded a 1-0 win at Seton Hall on Sunday afternoon to improve their overall record to 11-5-1. Serina Kashimoto came up with the game-winner in the second half to lift BU to victory.
"We didn't start out particularly sharp," Co-Head Coach Tari St. John explained after the match. "I think that had a lot to do with Seton Hall being disruptive. Overall, I was proud of our fight and our will to find a way to win. We killed off the game the last 20 minutes and never really felt threatened."
Kashimoto has now recorded the lone goal for Butler in back-to-back games helping Butler pick up conference wins vs. Georgetown and now Seton Hall. Today's score was unassisted as the junior took a free kick in the 64th minute of play to beat the keeper.
"Behind Serina's free kick is about 400 hours of practice and that is being conservative," St. John added. "Today, her moment of brilliance was the difference in the game."
Kashimoto now has five goals on the year tying Sophia Maccagnone for the second-highest total on the team. Kashimoto and Maccagnone also have four assists each giving them 14 points apiece on the year.
Sunday's match vs. Seton Hall was unique in that only one save was recorded. The stop was credited to Madison Card who earned the win over her counterpart Illissa Blackshear.
Butler took three shots in the first half and five in the second to end the match with eight. The Pirates were able to take four shots in the opening frame, but were shutout in the second half, allowing Butler to walk away victorious.
Butler's next challenge will come on Thursday, Oct. 22 with a 7 PM road match at Creighton. Coverage will be aired live on BEDN.
