Xavier held the upper hand at the start of the first set by going on an 8-2 scoring run. The streak moved the score to 10-4, but the Bulldogs would climb back into the action with a run of their own (7-1) pushing the score to 13-12.
With momentum on Butler's side, the Musketeers called for a timeout at 13-12 and the stoppage would work with Xavier quickly moving ahead 18-13. The five-point cushion would stick for the remainder of the set giving the visitors the 1-0 lead.
Service errors would hurt BU early in set two as Xavier built a 12-7 lead at the midway point. Laura Grossman and Abbey Bessler maintained the Xavier lead and Butler was forced to use a timeout facing a 17-11 deficit.
The Musketeers were the first team to reach 20 points in the second set and the team would add one more point off an ace before Butler's second timeout. A team block pushed Xavier to set point and the Musketeers would take a 2-0 lead into the break after a kill from Sofia Peterson.
Set three went back and forth early as each team clearly made some adjustments after the ten minute stoppage. The biggest difference came just after the midway point with Xavier going on a 5-0 scoring run. The scoring spree moved the score to 18-13, but the Bulldogs would once again close in on Xavier to get within two at 21-19. The late surge wasn't enough however as Peterson got the Musketeers to set point and a kill from Makayla Agin would end the match 25-20
