Box Score Tickets for Tuesday
INDIANAPOLIS – The Butler women's soccer team ended the 2015 regular season on a high-note by defeating the visiting Xavier Musketeers by the final score of 2-1. Xavier scored the first goal of the contest, but would not be able to hold onto that lead as Jamison Midgley found the back of the net for the first time in her young career to lift BU to victory.
Halle Stelbasky scored the equalizer on Friday night in the 35th minute to knot the score at 1-1. Stelbasky took a pass from Paige Monaghan who split a pair of XU defenders. With the ball on the right side of the goal, Stelbasky sent her shot into the lower left side of the net to pull Butler even before the half.
The two team's switched sides for the second period as Butler moved towards Hinkle Fieldhouse. The Bulldogs continued to dominate the shot count and it would eventually pay off in the 74th minute of action. Junior Serina Kashimoto moved the ball up the field and found Midgley on the right side. Midgley continued to move the ball up the right side and found room to blast a shot home from 20 yards out. The shot beat the keeper to the left side and went down in the scorebook as the game-winner.
With the win, Butler clinched the No. 4 seed and more importantly a home match in the first round of the 2015 BIG EAST Championship Tournament. The 'Dawgs will host the Marquette Golden Eagles on Tuesday, Nov. 3 at 7 PM. Tickets are now available for the event by Clicking Here.
The Bulldogs needed the win on Friday night in order to move past Marquette in the final standings. The Golden Eagles were defeated by DePaul in overtime which left the door open for Butler to host the first round. The Bulldogs came out extra aggressive in the Xavier match knowing that they needed the win and it showed up in the box score. BU took 16 shots on the night compared to just one from XU. The corner kick total was also lopsided 5-0.
The win tonight was extra sweet for eight young ladies, all of whom were recognized before the match for Senior Night. Sophia Maccagnone, Randi DeLong, Mackenzie Hopkins, Natalie Nusinow, Paige Johnson, Kim Janitz, Laura Luther and Addison Schaar will go down in history as one of the best classes to ever play women's soccer at Butler. The group recorded 45 wins for the program during their four-year careers, a win total that ties the class of 1997, although this group has a better overall winning percentage.
