Box Score QUEENS, N.Y. – The Bulldogs put the finishing touches on a perfect weekend by defeating St. John's 3-1 on Halloween Night. The win gives BU nine wins on the year, five of which have been recorded against conference foes.
The Bulldogs used a similar strategy on Saturday night after defeating Providence 3-1 the day before. Anna Logan, Jessica Klingensmith and Mary Striedl once again all reached a double figure kill total. Logan was the hot hand against the Red Storm with a team-high 17 kills. Klingensmith was the most efficient with 11 kills off 21 swings and Striedl was just one dig shy of a double-double by recording 10 kills.
Makayla Ferguson was the main focus of the Butler offense with a team-high 43 assists. The sophomore was making plays all over the arena by adding eight digs, seven kills and four blocks.
The dig category belonged to freshman Kodi Smith who managed to pick up 21. The block category was dominated by freshman Makaila Jarema who came up with eight. Freshman Briana Lilly was also all over the opponents at the net to add five blocks.
St. John's had two players post double-doubles in a losing effort. Setter Shwna-Lei Santos ended the night with 45 assists and 16 digs while Karin Palgutova supplied the Johnnies with 15 kills and 12 digs. The team leader in kills was Julia Cast with 16.
The 'Dawgs will return to action next weekend with a pair of home matches at Hinkle Fieldhouse. Villanova will visit Indy on Friday night for a 6 PM match and the weekend will come to a close with a 2 PM math vs. Seton Hall. Sunday's contest can be viewed live on the BIG EAST Digital Network.
