Box Score SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – The Bulldogs dropped a 3-0 decision to Seton Hall at Walsh Gym on Friday night 22-25, 15-25, 18-25. The loss moves Butler to 2-4 in the conference while Seton Hall moves up to 3-3.
Senior Mary Striedl led the Butler attack with eight kills off 16 swings. She ended the contest with a .312 attack percentage, 10 digs and three blocks.
Jessica Admire and Jessica Klingensmith also impacted the match with seven kills each. The assist category was once again split between Makayla Ferguson and Meghan Cotant. Ferguson just missed a double-double with a team-high 17 assists to go with eight digs.
Sophia Coffey and Amanda Hansen led the Pirates to victory. Coffey posted a double-double with 33 assists and 11 digs while Hansen controlled the middle of the court with 18 kills and five blocks.
Although the first set of the night ended up being the closest, the Pirates grabbed control early in the action with a 5-0 lead. The advantage grew to 17-10, but a late surge from Butler got the Bulldogs within a point at 23-22. Danielle Schroeder got Seton Hall to set point with a kill and the comeback would fall short after a kill from Hansen off the Coffey assist.
Set two was close at the start, but an 8-3 Pirate run pushed the Seton Hall lead to 20-13. The duo of Hansen and Schroeder once again did damage late in the action as Hansen put the team at set point and a Schroeder kill gave SHU the 2-0 edge.
Set three was another lopsided win for the home team as Seton Hall broke a 10-10 tie to open up a 21-14 advantage. The scoring run never allowed Butler to get going as the Pirates earned the sweep with a 25-18 win.
