Box Score TERRE HAUTE – Belle Obert hit a game-tying 3-point field goal with seven seconds left in regulation to send the game into overtime, but Indiana State would outscore Butler 11-4 over the final five minutes to record a 70-63 victory on Monday night at the Hulman Center.
Obert posted a double-double with 14 points and a team-high 11 rebounds to help Butler erase an eight-point deficit after three quarters. BU dominated the fourth 20-12 to force overtime, but the rally would fall just short as Indiana State held on for their fourth win of the season. With the setback, Butler moves to 5-6.
Blaire Langlois was the top option in the BU offensive attack, ending the game with a team-high 25 points on 6-of-17 shooting. The senior shooting guard had a career night from the charity stripe by connecting on all 10 of her free throw attempts, a feat that would allow her to tie her season-high scoring total.
The Bulldogs had two 3-point field goal attempts rim in and out in the opening minutes of the game which allowed the Sycamores to jump out in front. Langlois would once again spark the BU offense on the road with eight-straight points that got Butler right back in the mix. Alexa Bailey banked in a 3-pointer with the shot clock about to expire and a triple from Sydney Buck at the buzzer would give Butler a one point lead after one.
Indiana State had two players combine to score all 15 of their first quarter points. That duo would stay hot in the second with Cierra Ceazer and Ashley Taia posting 25 of ISU's 29 points at the half. Taia didn't miss a shot over the opening 20 minutes going 5-for-5 which included 3 shots from distance.
Taia ended the game with five triples, helping her net 25 points. She was the second leading scorer on the team with Ceazer leading ISU to victory with 26 points and 11 rebounds.
A strong dose of Ceazer and Taia would keep Indiana State in front for a majority of the game. The Sycamores also won the hustle categories in points off turnovers, second chance points and also fast break points. 20 Butler turnovers would result in 17 ISU points.
A costly steal by Ceazer with less than a minute in overtime would result in a fast break bucket for Indiana State that expanded the Sycamore lead to three points at 66-63. Indiana State would ice the game from that point on by hitting their free throws down the stretch.
Butler will return to action next Tuesday, Dec. 29 by hosting Villanova in the 2015-16 BIG EAST home opener. Tip-off is slated for 7 PM.
