Box Score DAYTON, Ohio – A lopsided third quarter allowed Wright State to defeat Butler on Friday night by the final score of 66-53. The Raiders outscored the Bulldogs 24-9 after the half to snap BU's three-game winning streak.
Butler opened up a three-point lead after the first quarter thanks to Blaire Langlois who dropped 15 of her game-high 21 points in the opening 10 minutes. The senior guard knocked down five 3-point field goals, ending the game with six total. BU enjoyed a three-point cushion after the first, an edge they would also hold at the half as the two teams rattled off 15 points each in the second quarter.
The Bulldogs held Kim Demmings in check early in the contest, but the WSU leading scorer would get things going in the closing minutes of the second. She scored her first two points of the game with 3:27 remaining in the second, but that jumper led to seven first half points. Demming was huge down the stretch as she finished the game with a team-high 20 points on 6-of-17 shooting.
Wright State had two other players in double figures with Emily Vogelpohl adding 14 and Antania Hayes finishing with 11. Center Richelle van der Keijl was a force on the inside with seven points and a team-high 12 rebounds.
Langlois was one of two Bulldogs in double figures, with the other being freshman Tori Schickel. Schickel added another double-double to her young career with 12 points and 13 rebounds.
Turnovers and second chance points would kill the Bulldogs momentum throughout the contest. 20 BU turnovers created 21 points for the Raiders while the second chance points favored the home team 13-2.
Butler will have a short turnaround as they prepare to face the Ball State Cardinals on Sunday. Tip-off at Worthen Arena is slated for 2 PM.
