Box Score INDIANAPOLIS – Butler took an 83-65 loss to DePaul on Friday afternoon, giving the team their first conference loss at home this season. The Blue Demons hit 14 3-point field goal against Butler, eight of which came in the first half.
DePaul shot 48 percent from behind the arc, making nearly half of their field goals from 3-point range. Six different players hit a triple against the Bulldogs with Chanise Jenkins leading the team with four. Jenkins ended the game with 17 points, one of five players to reach a double figure scoring total.
The Bulldogs fell behind early and were never able to fully recover as DePaul led from the opening tip. Ijeoma Uchendu and Loryn Goodwin were the top BU performers against the Blue Demons, but hot 3-point shooting from DePaul mixed in with 20 BU turnovers led to the 18-point setback.
Uchendu posted a double-double with 14 points and 11 boards. Eight of Uchendu's 14 points came from the charity stripe where she led all players going 8-10 from the line. Goodwin came off the bench on Friday to score a team-high 18 points. The red-shirt sophomore nearly recorded a double-double of her own with nine rebounds.
Butler got nine points and seven rebounds out of Blaire Langlois and Belle Obert played well in the paint going for four points and 11 boards. The 'Dawgs shot just 28 percent from the field in the first half, but upped that output to 50 percent in the final 20 minutes of play.
Every Butler player that entered the game got at least two points on Friday to bring Butler's final total to 65. Zoe Reichman scored the first two points of her Butler career against the Blue Demons and Emmy Schabel knocked down four free throws to set a new career-high.
Sydney Buck and Lexus Murry each scored six points against DePaul while Andriana Moore rounded out the scoring total with two points.
DePaul never trailed in the game as they opened up a 42-21 lead at the break. The Blue Demons had more 3-point field goals (8) than Butler had made field goals (7) in the first half which led to the lopsided score.
The Bulldogs were able to outscore DePaul 44-41 in the final 20 minute of action, but the damage in the first half was simply too much to overcome. With the win, DePaul takes their overall record to 18-6 and 10-2 in the BIG EAST Conference. The Bulldogs fall to 12-11 and 8-4 in BIG EAST play.
Butler will return to action on Sunday, Feb. 8 when they host the Marquette Golden Eagles at 1 p.m. EST.
