Box Score 2 DAYTONA BEACH, FLA. -- Butler began its Spring Break trip to Florida with a pair of games at Bethune-Cookman and came away with a two-game split. The Bulldogs captured the opener, 10-3, before falling 8-1 in the nightcap.
Junior Krosley Ogden sparked Butler's 11-hit attack in the opening game with three hits and three runs scored in four trips to the plate. The Butler outfielder had plenty of help, with six different teammates contributing at least one hit. Senior Kristen Boros and junior Alex Kotter each had two hits and a pair of runs batted in.
Butler (7-8) jumped to a 2-0 lead in the first inning on a run-scoring double by Boros and a sacrifice fly by Chelsea Norwood. The Bulldogs stretched the margin to 5-0 in the fifth inning behind Kotter's two-run double and a run-scoring single by Boros and then added five more runs in the final two innings.
Junior left-hander Kritin Gutierrez pitched the first six innings and picked up her fourth win of the season. She allowed just two earned runs, while striking out three.
Bethune-Cookman (6-20) turned the table in the second game, unleashing a 12-hit attack against two Butler pitchers. The Wildcats built a 5-0 lead through five innings and then added three more runs in the bottom of the sixth frame.
Norwood paced the Bulldogs with a pair of hits, while Ogden had the team's lone RBI.
Freshman Mikeila Boroff, who allowed four runs in the first two-and-a-third innings, took the loss for the Bulldogs and fell to 2-3 on the season.
The Bulldogs will continue their Florida trip at the UCF Invitational, which starts on Friday (March 13). Butler will play five games in three days at the Orlando tournament.
