INDIANAPOLIS -- The Butler men's tennis team will wrap up the regular season with a pair of weekend matches against BIG EAST foes in Creighton and Xavier. Friday's match vs. the Bluejays will begin at 4 p.m. Senior day will get underway at 2 p.m. on Sunday.
The Bulldogs are 1-2 overall in the BIG EAST with a win over Villanova and losses to both Marquette and DePaul. The team is coming off a win against inner-city rival IUPUI, and look to end their regular season with two more wins over BIG EAST opponents.
The Sunday matchup against Xavier is also Senior Day for Butler's team where the hardworking seniors will be honored for their dedication and commitment over the past four years. Senior players include Pulok Bhattacharya, Tommy Marx, Sam O'Neill, Billy Weldon, and Austin Woldmoe.
Bhattacharya is 6-8 overall in singles play mostly in the middle of the order at the 3-6 spots. He has consistently performed well in doubles throughout his years, and he pairs up with Brandon Woods this season to form the top doubles team posting an 11-8 overall record at the No. 1 and No. 2 spot.
Marx has been a solid player for the team over the years and was one of the top singles players during his junior year with a 14-13 overall record. This year, Marx has contributed seven singles match victories for the Bulldogs and looks to add some going into these finals matchups.
O'Neill has been a leading player for the team this season in both singles and doubles play. This senior posts an 11-8 record in singles and 10-4 record in doubles play when paired up with fellow senior Billy Weldon. Weldon earned of the two points for Butler in last year's matchup with Xavier with an 8-7 victory in doubles play with O'Neill. The two are dominant at the No. 2 spot and look to gain another win against the Musketeers this weekend.
Austin Woldmoe has been a vital player for the Bulldogs since his freshmen year after being awarded as the 2012 Horizon League Newcomer of the Year. Primarily playing at the 1-3 spots, Woldmoe records six wins in singles and teams up with his brother, Alex Woldmoe, to post a 10-4 record predominantly at the No. 3 spot.
The Bulldogs are expecting to give their best efforts to honor the seniors and give them two last regular-season victories. The first match against Creighton begins at 4 p.m. at the BU Outdoor Courts with Sunday's match vs. Xavier set to begin at 2 p.m.
