SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Butler scored four runs in the top of the fourth inning, but the scoring outbreak wouldn't be enough as the steady Seton Hall Pirates scored a single run in six of eight innings to earn the win.

Austin Miller was the player of the game for Butler as the second baseman delivered a three-run home run in the fourth to give Butler a 4-2 lead. Garrett Christman opened up the scoring in the fourth with an RBI single, but the two-out homer was the story of the game for BU as Miller sent Christman and Quincy Quintero home to grab the advantage.

Seton Hall tied the game in the bottom of the sixth off a sac fly and a groundout RBI in the seventh gave them the one-run cushion. The Pirates would add an insurance run in the eighth with a single up the middle taking the game to the final score of 6-4.

Tyler Houston and Christman each had two hits on Friday night while Quintero and Will Amador rounded out the hit total.

Jeff Schank got the start and walked off the mound with no decision after six full innings. The southpaw struck out seven while giving up just six hits. The loss fell to Danny Pobereyko who tossed the final two innings. Pobereyko was tagged with four hits that generated two runs, one of which was earned.

Zach Prendergast earned the win for SHU while Anthony Elia came in for his second save of the season.  The Pirates used two RBIs from both Joe Puduslenko and Kyle Grimm to spark their offense.

Game two of the series will be played at Owen T. Carroll Field tomorrow at 1 p.m.
