Box Score INDIANAPOLIS, IND. -- Butler rode the bat of Kristen Boros and the arm of Kristin Gutierrez to a 4-1 victory over visiting Georgetown to wrap-up a three-game BIG EAST series on Sunday, April 19. The win gave Butler a series sweep and lifted the Bulldogs to 21-22 on the season and 7-8 in the BIG EAST.
Boros had three hits in three trips to the plate and scored a pair of runs to fuel the Bulldogs. The Butler senior doubled to center field and eventually scored Butler's first run on a wild pitch in the third inning. She added a second double to center and scored again in the fifth inning.
"(Boros) has been on a tear. She's doing what I hope a senior would do coming into the last part of her career and trying to carry the team," stated Butler head coach Scott Hall.
Gutierrez, getting her second start in the series, went the distance in the circle and picked up her 11th win of the season. She battled rainy conditions and the Hoyas' lineup and wound up surrendering just a single run on four hits.
"It was tough conditions for (Gutierrez) today," pointed out Hall. "She's got small hands which makes it even worse in this weather. It took a couple pitches out of the mix just because of the water, but she battled and kept the ball down."
Georgetown (13-27, 3-10 BIG EAST), after going scoreless in two games on Saturday, jumped in front in the third inning on a solo home run by Gabriela Elvina. But the Bulldogs came right back and tied the game on the first run by Boros.
The Bulldogs then took the lead for good with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Alyssa Lach started the inning with a double to left field, and she later scored on a double to left by Riley Carter. Krosley Ogden then plated Carter with a single to left.
Boros finished the scoring with her second run, coming home on a sacrifice fly by Brandyce Sallee.
The win was Butler's sixth straight, and it moved the Bulldogs into fourth place in the BIG EAST standings.
"We're confident right now and our pitchers are throwing well, and we're putting the ball in play. It's the time of the year when you really want to start rolling, so hopefully it carries on," added the Butler coach.
Butler will step out of conference play for a doubleheader at Miami, Ohio on Tuesday, April 21. The Bulldogs will wrap up their home season with a three-game BIG EAST series against Seton Hall on Saturday and Sunday, April 25-26.
