INDIANAPOLIS – The Butler women's tennis team took a 7-0 loss at home to Xavier on Sunday afternoon to end the regular season with an overall record of 8-16. Butler split their weekend series to head into the conference tournament with a 2-3 mark against BIG EAST opponents.
"The girls played well today," Head Coach Tayo Bailey explained. "Due to our number one and four players being out with injury, our lineup wasn't as strong as it could have been. Xavier has always been a very solid team and we expected a good fight. Hopefully our players will be able to return in time for the conference tournament this coming weekend. Either way, I know all of the girls will give their absolute best for every match and we will find success."
The Musketeers dominated doubles competition making quick work of the Bulldogs in all three matches. Konstantina Adami and Bailey Padgett were defeated 8-3 while the other two BU teams were knocked off 8-2. Grace Hyde and Angelina Qin represented BU at No. 2 while Rachel Sutton and Michelle McFerran took the court at No. 3.
With Kylie Haviland missing in the lineup today, Head Coach Tayo Bailey placed Padgett at No. 1 singles for Butler. Padgett was defeated by Sydney Liggins 6-1, 6-2 and Xavier would increase their lead with a 6-0, 6-3 win at No. 2.
Qin took a 6-1, 6-0 loss at No. 3 and Sutton was defeated in straight-sets at No. 4 6-1, 6-2. Rounding out the lineup for BU was McFerran at No. 5 and Hyde at No. 6. McFerran lost 7-5, 6-1 while Hyde dropped a 6-4, 6-0 loss.
