Bulldogs Drop Two Games At Providence

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Nicole Lundstrom provided the bat and Taylor Huntly supplied the arm and the two sophomores led host Providence to a doubleheader sweep of Butler on Thursday, April 2.  The Friars captured the opener, 2-0, and then completed the sweep with a run-shortened, 11-3, victory in the nightcap.

Lundstrom slugged three home runs and drove in five runs on the afternoon.  She provided all of the Friars' offense in the first game with a pair of solo home runs, and then keyed a seven-run first inning in the second game with a three-run home run.

Huntly started and earned the victory in both games.  She tossed a seven-inning shutout, allowing just five hits in the first game.  The Providence ace then pitched the first four innings of the second game, giving up three runs on five hits.  She struck out ten on the day.

Butler's scoring in the second game came on home runs from senior sophomore Brandyce Sallee and senior Kristen Boros.  Sallee belted a two-run home run in the third inning, while Boros added a solo home run in the fifth.  Boros finished the day with three hits in six trips to the plate.

Junior Kristen Gutierrez started the first game and pitched all six innings for the Bulldogs.  She allowed just four hits in the game, but two were home runs by Lundstrom.  The Butler left-hander fell to 6-9 on the season.

The two setbacks dropped Butler to 14-19 on the season and 2-6 in the BIG EAST.

Butler and Providence (7-13, 2-2 BIG EAST) will wrap up the three-game series with a single game on Saturday, April 4, starting at noon (ET).
