Bulldogs Rally for 8-6 Win at Dayton

Box Score

DAYTON, Ohio – Butler scored five of their eight runs in the final two innings to defeat Dayton on Wednesday afternoon. The Bulldogs improved to 13-18 with the victory while the Flyers dropped to 9-21 overall.

Ryan Wojciechowski was unstoppable at Dayton as the senior first baseman paced the offense with a 3-for-3 effort from the plate that included three RBIs and two runs scored. Wojciechowski was also walked twice which turned into a common theme for the top of the BU order as Tyler Houston walked twice in the two-hole and Drew Small walked once as the lead-off man.

Houston didn't record a hit during his three at-bats, but he still managed to score three runs against the Flyers. Small was 2-for-4 for Butler while Quincy Quintero and Michael Fries also impacted the win with Quintero going 3-for-5 with two RBIs and Fries picking up an RBI on his 2-for-5 day.

The comeback started in the top of the eighth off an RBI double from Quintero. A wild pitch moved Quintero to third and Fries got the runner in with a single to centerfield.

Momentum stayed with Butler in the ninth with Wojciechowski delivering a two RBI double to left center. Houston and Small would score on the play while the third and final run of the inning would come home after a Garrett Christman single.

Butler's scoring opened up in the top of the first after a Wojciechowski double. Dayton came back with a two-run second inning, an effort that was matched by Butler in the third. Wojciechowski came up with a one out single that scored Houston and Quintero followed in the order to pick up an RBI single.

The score would move to 3-3 after the fourth and a three-run sixth inning from Dayton would put the Flyers in charge 6-3.

Multiple pitching changes were made throughout the day for Butler. The trio of Bobby Napoleon, Danny Pobereyko and Kyle Allen secured the win by tossing the final three innings of action.

Napoleon only surrendered one hit during his one inning outing. That hit would be one more than what Pobereyko or Allen would give up as Pobereyko picked up his first win of the season and Allen was credited with his first save of the year.

Butler will return to action with a three-game series at West Virginia this weekend. Action starts with a 6 p.m. first pitch on Friday, April 10.
