Box Score

Match Notes

INDIANAPOLIS – The Bulldogs will cap off their four-match home stand with a pair of matches over the weekend. The Kent State Golden Flashes will visit the Butler Bowl on Friday night at 7 PM and the weekend will then come to a close with a 1 PM match vs. the IPFW Mastodons.

About the Bulldogs
Butler heads into the weekend with an impressive 5-1-1 overall record. The team has recent wins over Evansville and Wright State as they prepare for a Friday tilt with Kent State followed by a Sunday match vs. IPFW. Halle Stelbasky has played great for BU during her rookie season. The freshman has a team-high five goals to go along with one assist for 11 points. Senior Sophia Maccagnone is second on the team with six points (2 g, 2 a) and standout midfielder Serina Kashimoto is close behind with five points (2 g, 1 a). With that talented trio leading the offensive unit, an equally impressive trio in Madison Card, Randi DeLong and Shannon McDevitt has helped BU record four shutouts. Card has been the keeper for all seven of the matches. She has eight total saves and a goals against average of 0.62.

All-Time Series
Butler and Kent State have only played once with that lone meeting coming during the 2004 season. Led by head coach Woody Sherwood, the Bulldogs hosted the Golden Flashes on Sept. 12 with the game ending in a 2-2 tie.

The all-time series between Butler and IPFW favors BU with the Bulldogs holding a 6-1-1 lead. Butler hosted IPFW just one year ago and recorded a 4-0 win. Butler's only loss to IPFW ironically came in 2004, the same season that the 'Dawgs tied the Golden Flashes.

Scouting Kent State
The Golden Eagles enter tonight's contest with a record of 1-2-2, with their only win of the season coming against Bryant University. The Butler defense will need to slow down junior forward, Jenna Hellstrom. Hellstrom leads Kent State in almost every offensive category. The junior has recorded three goals on 15 shots, to go along with four assists for ten points overall. Head coach, Rob Marinaro, has started three different goalkeepers to begin the season. Freshman Ashleah McDonald has started three games for the Golden Eagles and has recorded 20 saves, while only allowing two goals. Katie Kingsbury has also seen action in net, as the sophomore has appeared in three games and made two starts.

Scouting IPFW
The Mastodons have yet to record a win six games into their season, with one more game on the slate against Youngstown State before making the short trip to Butler on Sunday. IPFW has allowed at least three goals in all six of their games this season, including a 5-0 loss to Saint Louis in their last contest. Sophomore Kallianne Mogler and senior Brooke Bishir have recorded the Mastodons only two goals on the season, while Mogler leads the team with 13 shots on goal. Butler looks to take advantage of goalkeepers Kiley Dunning and Haley Lydon. The duo has allowed 20 goals combined while Dunning has started five of the six games for IPFW.

Milestone Watch
Senior midfielder Sophia Maccagnone has posted her name all over the career record book at Butler. With an assist in the 2-1 win against Evansville, Maccagnone moved to fourth place all-time with 22 career assists. Two of the three players currently ahead of Maccagnone are within range (23, 26), but the standout playmaker will not likely reach the top spot held by Chris Johnson who registered 40 assists throughout her career which ranged from 1991-94. Maccagnone remains in fifth place all-time with 28 goals and 78 points.

Home Field Advantage
BIG EAST teams boast a 18-7-1 (.700) on their home fields this season, with St. John's, Butler, Providence and Xavier showing flawless marks on their home pitches. Villanova is the lone squad that has yet to play a game at home as all five tilts have come on the road thus far. Butler's undefeated home record this season includes wins against Eastern Michigan, Milwaukee, Evansville and Wright State. Winning home matches has turned into a pattern for Butler as the Bulldogs posted a 4-0 record at home against non-conference opponents last year.

Weekend Roundup
BIG EAST teams combined for a 5-8-1 (.367) mark over the holiday weekend, with DePaul, Creighton, Butler, Xavier and St. John's collecting wins. The Red Storm earned a notable overtime win at Boston College on Sunday afternoon, edging the Eagles, who were receiving votes in the NSCAA Poll, on Christina Bellero's overtime score. The victory marked the BIG EAST's third win (3-1) over a team from the ACC and the second by St. John's. The Friars also boast an ACC victory this season, topping Syracuse 1-0 on Aug. 23. Following the weekend, DePaul dropped from No. 20/19 to 24/24 in the national polls, while St. John's moved to NR/23.

Take The Shot
Sophia Maccagnone made Butler women's soccer history on Wednesday night by taking four shots against Wright State. The senior is now the all-time leader in career shots with 282. The old record of 280 career shots was held by Joy Aschenbrener during her career from 1995-98.

Team National Rankings
As a team, Butler is ranked 23rd in the country in total assists (23) and 48th in shutout percentage (.500). They come in at 51st in win-loss-tie percentage (.750) and 74th in points (per game).

Individual National Rankings
Three Bulldogs are nationally ranked in their respective categories as the team heads into Wednesday night's contest. Randi DeLong is 54th in the country and first in the BIG EAST Conference in assists per game (0.60). Freshman Halle Stelbasky is ranked 69th in goals per game (0.667) and 97th in points per game (1.50). Goalkeeper Madison Card is ranked 70th with a 0.727 goals against average.

Non-Conference Schedule
The Bulldogs have a great opportunity to head into the conference season with a strong record as the program currently holds the upper hand in the all-time series against every non-conference opponent on the 2015 schedule with the exception of Milwaukee.

WSOC on BEDN
Butler will play six games on the BIG EAST Digital Network this season. The BIG EAST network launched BEDN in 2014-15 becoming the first collegiate conference to be hosted on FOX's mobile platform, FOX Sports Go, the app that provides live streaming video of FOX Sports content at home or on-the-go. Butler's first appearance on BEDN will be at Providence on Sunday, Oct. 4. The team will play six of their final seven games of the regular season on the BEDN.
