BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bulldogs traveled to Cochrane Field on Thursday night to defeat the Bowling Green Falcons by the final score of 2-0. A goal in the first half followed by a score in the second pushed Butler to their seventh win of the season.

Sophia Maccagnone put Butler on the scoreboard early in the opening half with a goal at the 18:15 mark. Maccagnone netted her third goal of the season off an assist from Jamison Midgley. The senior midfielder took the pass in the middle of the field, ran past her defender and hit the shot from 20 yards away.

The Bulldogs controlled possession for most of the night and a second half goal would put the game away in the 72nd minute of play. Jenna Dorchock came up with her second goal of the year off an assist from Maria Collica. Collica sent the ball into the box where Dorchock won the ball and beat the keeper for the insurance goal.  

"This was a very good, dominating performance," Co-Head Coach Tari St. John said. "The stats are one thing, but we were also able to control the game against a much improved BGSU team."

Butler won the shot count 19-7 behind a balanced attack. Maccagnone, Paige Monaghan and Halle Stelbasky all tied for the team lead with four shots each. Serina Kashimoto chipped in with three while Randi DeLong added two.

 "Although it doesn't clearly show in the stat sheet, Sophie and Serina were once again the catalysts for our dominance in possession and attack," St. John added.

The Bulldogs went with senior Kim Janitz in goal for the second-straight game. Janitz made two saves to help the 'Dawgs post their fifth shutout of the season.

With the win, Butler has now won four of their last five matches. The team will close out the non-conference season on Sunday with a road match at Kentucky. The contest will be aired live on the SEC Network at 6 p.m.
