@ButlerWSoccer Falls at Kentucky 4-1

Box Score

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Bulldogs dropped a 4-1 decision at Kentucky on Sunday night after giving up three second half scores. The loss drops BU to 7-3-1 while the Wildcats improve to 8-1-1.

"We started brightly and controlled the game over the first 15-20 minutes," Co-Head Coach Rob Alman said after the match. For the remainder of the half, things leveled out and Kentucky found a foothold in the game."

UK took a 1-0 lead into the second half after a goal from Michaela Dooley. Dooley's fourth goal of the year came off an assist from Kaitlin Miller. The Wildcats out shot Butler 7-3 in the opening 45 minutes, and quick strikes from the home team in the second half would give Kentucky the upper hand in the contest.

"To be one down at halftime due to a set piece was disappointing because neither team had really created any clear cut chances," Alman added. "The second goal was killer because it was just a miss hit cross that sailed over our keeper. It turned out to be a key moment in the game and a bad break for us."

Cara Ledman scored an unassisted goal in the 49th minute to give UK a 2-0 lead and the advantage would grow to 3-0 just moments later off a goal from Jade Klump in the 52nd minute of the match.

"To be fair to Kentucky, they showed what they are all about in the second half," Alman stated. "They were the better team on the night and although we were disappointed with a couple of the goals we gave up, they deserved the win."

Butler's lone goal of the night came from Breann Pempek in the 76th minute. Pempek received the ball at the top of the box and finished off the double assist from Sophia Maccagnone and Alex Holmes.

A Butler miscue late in the game led to the 4-1 final as an own goal was recorded in the 88th minute of action.

Kentucky took 12 total shots compared to just six from BU. Corner kicks also favored UK 6-4.

Butler welcomed goalkeeper Madison Card back to action after missing the previous two matches. Card responded on the road by making three saves. Her counterpart was Katelyn Jensen, a keeper who finished the contest with no saves and one goal allowed.

"We will take a lot away from this game which comes off the back of a long and busy set of fixtures," Alman said. "We are really looking forward to a full week of preparation ahead of the conference opener against Villanova."
