Late Goal Drops @ButlerWSoccer at Indiana State

Box Score

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Butler held a 1-0 advantage at the half, but three second half goals from Indiana State would give the Sycamores the 3-2 victory on Thursday night. The loss goes down as the first of the season for BU while ISU improves to 2-3 on the year.

"After you sift through the disappointment and frustration, we played really, really well aside from three lapses," Co-Head Coach Tari St. John stated after the match. "In most games, I think we score five or six from the chances we created. Indiana State's goalkeeper was unbelievable tonight. She deserves a lot of credit."

Butler took 29 shots compared to just 10 from Indiana State, yet the outcome went to the home team. Brittany San Roman led the Sycamore defense with a game-high eight saves in 90 minutes of action while the offense was guided by Sydney Lovelace who came up with two goals and an assist on the game-winning goal.

Butler tied the contest at the 84:04 mark off a goal from Halle Stelbasky, but it wasn't enough as the Sycamores responded with the game-winner just two minutes and five seconds later to steal the win.

Butler took 16 corner kicks on the night, including nine in the second half compared to just one from Indiana State. The lopsided shot total also favored Butler as Serina Kashimoto ended the game with 11 shots (4 on goal).

Kashimoto was aggressive from the start and it paid off as she scored the first goal of the game off the double assist from Randi DeLong and Gabrielle Lemkuil.

The 1-0 lead would hold throughout the first 45 minutes of the opening half, but Lovelace would strike in the 60th minute to knot the score. Her first goal came off an assist from Kasey Wallace and her go-ahead goal, scored just seven minutes, later came off a feed from Kate Johnson.

Butler weathered the storm and came up with a late goal in the contest off the foot of Halle Stelbasky (84:02), but the final outcome would go to Maddie Orf and the Sycamores as Lovelace found Orf for the game-winning goal in the final minutes of action.

"We have a lot of games left to play," St. John added. "It's important not to get to high or low. Sunday's game is now our focus."

Sundays' contest will begin at 1 p.m. when the Bulldogs play host to the Evansville Purple Aces.
