@ButlerWSoccer Wins 2-1 at Home vs. Evansville

Box Score

INDIANAPOLIS – Freshman Halle Stelbasky found the back of the net two times against the visiting Evansville Purple Aces to lead Butler to a 2-1 victory on Sunday afternoon. With the win, the Bulldogs remain undefeated at the Butler Bowl.

Butler enjoyed a 1-0 lead at the half after a goal from Halle Stelbasky. Sophia Maccagnone played the ball out to Alex Holmes who sent a long pass over the head of the Purple Aces last line of defense. Stelbasky tracked down the pass and beat the keeper to the right side from straight-away. It was her third goal of the season.

"We are all aware of what Halle can do," Co-Head Coach Rob Alman said after the match. "She's not playing like a freshman anymore… she is a go-to threat for us."

The freshman forward added her fourth goal of the season in the second half off yet another assist from Holmes. Stelbasky received the ball on the right side of the field and dribbled past an Evansville defender before blasting the shot past the keeper in the bottom left corner.

"Alex Holmes had two great assists today," Alman said. "She is a freshman that is finding her way. She got a few more minutes out on the field today and did fantastically well."

Evansville responded to get on the scoreboard just moments after Butler took the 2-0 edge. Nicki Baham tossed the ball in to Colleen Dierkes who scored her first goal of the season in the 57th minute.

"It was a good performance for us today all around," Alman added. "We played a little sloppy for 20 minutes or so after scoring the second goal, but those are simple things that we can fix."

Corner kicks were even at 6-6, but the Bulldogs won the overall shot count 11-5. Madison Card picked up the win as the BU goalkeeper without having to make a save. The Evansville keeper was Simone Busy for all 45 minutes. She made three stops against the Bulldogs.

Butler will return to action with a home match vs. Wright State on Wednesday, Sept. 9. Opening kick is slated for 7 PM.
