Women's Tennis Falls to #44 Purdue in Season Opener

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- The Butler women's tennis team lost their first match of the season at Purdue on Saturday afternoon, 6-1.

The Bulldogs were led by No. 1 singles player sophomore Bailey Padgett, who defeated Purdue's Deborah Suarez, 6-1, 7-6 (7-2). It would end up being the Bulldogs' only win of the day.

Padgett and junior Kylie Haviland represented Butler at No. 1 doubles earlier in the day. The team was facing a 4-3 deficit before action ended with Purdue taking the point by winning No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. Konstantina Adami and Jocelyn Koester teamed up at No. 2 while Grace Hyde and Kailey Eaton made up the No. 3 team.

The matches were hosted indoors on the Basham Courts at the Schwartz Tennis Center. Purdue used their home-court advantage and dominated the remainder of the singles action to earn the win. The Boilermakers head into the indoor season ranked nationally at No. 44.

Butler has two upcoming home matches, the first being Abilene Christian on Monday, Jan. 18 at 5pm. The following match against Eastern Illinois next Saturday, Jan. 23 at 4pm. Both matches will be played in the Butler Bubble.
