QUEENS, N.Y. – Butler dropped to 7-12 on the year with a 68-41 setback at St. John's on Friday night. Taylor Buford and Brittany Ward paced the offense with 11 points each.

Buford gave Butler a lift off the bench to score a career-high 11 points off 3-of-8 shooting. She went 5-for-6 from the charity stripe and also added two steals.

A late scoring outbreak from Ward in the fourth quarter allowed her to tie Buford for the team-lead in points. All 11 of Ward's points came over the final 10 minutes of action. She shot 4-of-12 from the field, but was able to notch a double-double by adding a team-high 12 rebounds.

Butler was held to 16 percent shooting (4-for-24) from the field in the first half allowing St. John's to open up a 29-8 lead at the break. Sydney Buck tied the game at 2-2 after a nice cut and finish at the rim, but the BU offense would stall quickly after.

Trailing 12-2 after one, Butler picked up back-to-back field goals from Taylor Buford but the St. John's lead had already grown to 17-6. Belle Obert added the final field goal of the half to round out the scoring total.

The third quarter also belonged to the Red Storm as St. John's doubled up BU 20-10. Langlois came up with all five of her points in the third. She was one of three Bulldogs to finish the game with five points, joining Belle Obert and Nicole Orr.

Butler's 35 percent shooting in the second half was a major improvement over the opening 20 minutes, but they wouldn't be able to make up ground with STJ shooting 51 percent in the second half.

Butler will return to action on Sunday with a 2 PM contest at Seton Hall. The game will be aired live on the BIG EAST Digital Network.
