Slow Start Sinks @ButlerWBB vs. UCF 66-59

Box Score

INDIANAPOLIS – The UCF Knights left Hinkle Fieldhouse with a 66-59 win on Tuesday night moving Butler's overall record to 2-3. Butler got within six points of UCF near the midway point in the fourth quarter, but two big 3-point field goals from UCF would lift the Knights to victory.

The opening ten minutes belonged to UCF as the Knights outscored Butler 16-7 by shooting 63 percent from the field (7-11). A full court, trapping press would give Butler problems resulting in the nine-point UCF lead.

Turnovers plagued each team which led to 50 combined turnovers in the contest. Butler used multiple defensive looks to create 12 steals and UCF's ball pressure would end in the Knights coming up with 19 steals.

Each team would finish the game with 23 made field goals, but the visitors would win the 3-point and free throw battle to win the game. Butler only made two 3-point field goals, each of which came late in the contest. Alexa Bailey made her only 3-point attempt of the evening while Shae Brey went 1-for-2 from downtown.

Butler was led in scoring by sophomore forward Tori Schickel who notched a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Schickel grabbed five of her team-high 10 rebounds on the offensive glass. She has led the team in rebounds in each of the first five games.

Helping Schickel on the offensive end of the court would be freshman Kristen Spolyar and point guard Michelle Weaver. Spolyar didn't shoot a great percentage, but she kept Butler within striking distance with 14 points. Weaver battled foul trouble for most of the second half and was limited to nine points after going off for 20 in each of her last two appearances.

Butler got a lift off the bench with Alexa Bailey and Kaela Hodges combining for 14 points. Each player ended the game with seven. Hodges added four rebounds while Bailey dished out five assists.

UCF was led by Aliyah Gregory who scored 18 points and pulled down five rebounds. Zykira Lewis came off the bench to add 15 points and Joslyn Massey ended the game with seven points, nine rebounds and a team-high five steals.

Butler will return to action with a game at TCU on Wednesday, Nov. 30.
