@ButlerWBB Drops Conference Opener at Creighton

OMAHA, Neb. – The Bulldogs enjoyed a six-point halftime lead at DJ Sokol Arena on Wednesday afternoon, but were unable to pull out a win at Creighton. The Bluejays grabbed their first lead of the game in the third quarter and would move forward to defeat Butler 67-52.
 
The third quarter decided the outcome with Creighton outscoring Butler 16-4. Michelle Weaver scored the first two points after the half, but Creighton would respond with an 11-0 run to move in front. The final 10 minutes also belonged to the home team as Creighton finished off BU in the fourth quarter 21-12.
 
Weaver led all players with a game-high 18 points. She paced BU with 11 in the first half, including a pair of first quarter 3-pointers. BU hit all five of their 3-point field goals in the opening 10 minutes of action. They ended the game 5-for-10 from distance.
 
Kristen Spolyar also scored in double digits for BU by finishing the game with 11 points. Both Spolyar and Weaver would add five rebounds to their stat line. BU was led in the rebound category by Tori Schickel. The sophomore pulled down 14 boards to go along with her eight points.
 
Creighton shot 40 percent (22-55) from the field compared to 31 percent from the Bulldogs. BU shot 53 percent (8-15) in the opening quarter, but was limited to just five made field goals in the second half.
 
Marissa Janning and Audrey Faber led the Bluejay offensive attack. Janning finished the contest with 17 points, six rebounds and six assists. She nearly matched Butler from the charity stripe, going 7-for-14 from the line. BU as a team shot 9-for-15.
 
Faber was in the book with 16 points while Brianna Rollerson posted a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. The fourth Bluejay in double figure scoring was freshman Jaylyn Agnew who posted 10 points and four blocked shots.
 
Butler will return to action on Friday afternoon with a game at Providence. The Friars are also 0-1 after one conference game after taking a 54-51 loss to Xavier.
