@ButlerMBB Pulls Out Impressive Road Win at Seton Hall, 81-75

Box Score

Roosevelt Jones's contested driving runner with 20 seconds to play gave Butler a four-point lead and iced an impressive road win over Seton Hall Wednesday night in Newark. Kelan Martin added two free throws for his 23rd point of the night and an 81-75 win. The victory pushes Butler to 17-7 overall and 6-6 in BIG EAST play. Seton Hall, which was receiving votes in both national polls this week, is now 17-7 (7-5).

Martin added 10 rebounds for his sixth double-double of the season. The Bulldogs out-rebounded Seton Hall, 31-26. The Pirates entered play leading the BIG EAST in rebounding in conference games.

Jones's play was highlighted by holding Isaiah Whitehead without a field goal in the second half after he made all eight of his attempts – including seven three-pointers – in the first 20 minutes. Whitehead ended the game with 26 points.

"We had to find a way to limit Whitehead in the second half, and we were able to do that fairly effectively," said Butler coach Chris Holtmann. "Roosevelt was a large part of that. We're asking him to compete at both ends and that is what he is doing. That's what seniors do."

Jones had 10 points on the night, one of five Bulldogs in double figures. Kellen Dunham had 15 of his 18 in the second half as both Dunham and Martin posted 8-of-10 performances from the free throw line.

Whitehead's shooting kept Seton Hall in the game in the first half as he had 23. The teams were tied at 38 after 20 minutes. Butler's lead would extend to nine at 56-47 with 13:41 to play. Seton Hall would close it to two on two occasions including at 77-75 with 1:13 remaining. Two possessions later, Jones hit the shot that sealed the win.

Butler scored 80 for the third straight game. Tyler Wideman and Andrew Chrabascz each had 11 points. Chrabascz added six assists. Butler shot 56 percent from the field, including a 14-of-21 clip in the second half.

Butler returns to Hinkle Fieldhouse for a Saturday (Feb. 13) match-up with #5 Xavier. The 2:30 p.m. tip will be broadcast nationally on FOX. The game is sold out. The two-game homestand continues when Creighton comes to Indianapolis Tuesday (Feb. 16). Tickets for the Creighton game are available.
