Box Score 2 The Butler softball team travels to Nashville this weekend for a weekend event hosted by Tennessee State. The Bulldogs will play five games in three days against East Tennessee State, Louisiana-Monroe, Evansville, Northern Kentucky, and Tennessee State.
They are coming off a 2-2 road trip against four teams in Auburn, Ala. Butler took the first two games they played on Friday, but dropped both contests on Saturday.
Due to their performance, the Bulldogs had two players named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll: junior Brandyce Sallee and senior Kristin Gutierrez.
Sallee hit .500 over the weekend for Butler. She drove in four runs and added three doubles and two stolen bases during the trip. On the mound Gutierrez had a strong showing going 1-1, giving up just two earned runs in 12 innings for a 1.17 earned run average. She struck out eight.
Freshman Kaitlin Doud also had a strong first weekend wearing a Butler uniform. She batted .455 with a triple and three runs batted in.
Last season, Butler played two of these teams and came away with a 3-0 record against them. They defeated Evansville 3-1 as part of the South Alabama Invitational as well as defeating Northern Kentucky twice on the road, 13-8 and 11-3.
Friday will feature games against East Tennessee State as well as Louisiana-Monroe. They then will come back Saturday to take on Evansville in a night game, and the Bulldogs will round out the weekend on Sunday against Northern Kentucky and host Tennessee State.
The first pitch for the Bulldogs will take place at 12:15 p.m. against East Tennessee State. Live stats for all game are available and linked on the ButlerSports.com site.
