Bluejays Hold Off @ButlerWBB 52-42

Box Score

INDIANAPOLIS – The Creighton Bluejays ended the fourth quarter on a 13-2 run to defeat Butler on Friday afternoon. The Bulldogs took a one point lead with 2:53 to play in the fourth quarter after a 3-point field goal from Sydney Buck, but the Creighton offense would respond with 13-straight points to earn the win.

Buck finished the game with two 3-point field goals and a jumper to post eight points. She was joined by Alexa Bailey in the box score who also added eight points. The freshman point guard also supplied Butler with six rebounds, four assists and four steals.

Senior Blaire Langlois led Butler in the scoring column with 16. Three of her five field goal makes were from downtown and the team captain also chipped in with four rebounds, two blocks and two assists.

Creighton was led by Sydney Lamberty who scored a game-high 18 points on 6-of-10 shooting. The only other Bluejay to end the game in double figures was Audrey Faber who scored 12.

Lamberty hit the biggest shot of the game for Creighton to regain the lead late in the fourth quarter. After the 3-point make from Buck, Lamberty responded with a 3-point field goal of her own to spark the 13-2 run. The fourth quarter went down as a 21-9 advantage for Creighton as Butler took a 33-31 lead into the final 10 minutes.

The low scoring affair got better with each quarter. Each team was out of sync in the opening 10 minutes, allowing Creighton to grab a 7-5 lead after one. The second quarter wasn't much different as each team would head into the locker room 6-for-29 (20.7%) from the field. Butler won the third quarter by a single point, but the outcome was decided in the final three minutes with Creighton getting hot.

Butler's defensive effort caused 22 turnovers, but they were hit with 20 miscues to keep the category even. Belle Obert single-handedly protected the rim for BU by recording five blocked shots.

The Bulldogs will look to get back on track this Sunday with a 2 PM game vs. Providence.
