Roosevelt Jones posted the first triple-double for Butler since the 1983-84 season as Butler ran away from St. John's, 89-56, at Carnesecca Arena in New York City Saturday afternoon. The win improves the Bulldogs to 16-7 on the season and 5-6 in BIG EAST play.

Jones had 10 points and 10 assists to go along with a career-high 14 rebounds for his triple-double. Tim McRoberts was the last Bulldog to accomplish the feat, posting his against Oral Roberts Feb. 20, 1984.

"Rose's impact is on both ends of the court," said Butler coach Chris Holtmann. "That's a really rare accomplishment. We'll go as far as our seniors take us. It's their job to lead in practice and in games this time of year. They did that today."

Kelan Martin, coming off a 35-point performance Tuesday against Georgetown, had a game-high 18 points. Jordan Gathers added 16 points, his high mark in a Butler uniform.

St. John's took an early 12-7 lead before Butler responded with a 31-5 run over the next 11 minutes to push the lead to 38-17 with four minutes to play in the first half. Butler took a 48-26 lead into the half and then scored nine of the first 12 second-half points to put the game out of reach.

Butler made a season-high 12 three-pointers in the contest. Butler shot 48 percent from the field and assisted on 22 of their 31 field goals.

In his first game back after missing the last four due to a concussion, Tyler Lewis had seven points, five assists and four steals. Butler's defensive activity forced St. John's into 31-percent shooting and 21 turnovers. Gathers and Lewis led a bench effort that had 36 points in the game after combining for only six points in the last three games. Jackson Davis had eight rebounds.

The Bulldogs continue a quick road swing with a Wednesday game at Seton Hall. It will be the first of two match-ups between the two teams this season. The 6:30 p.m. tip is scheduled for FS1.
