@ButlerWBB Earns 65-50 Win Over Providence

Box Score

INDIANAPOLIS – The Bulldogs snapped a seven-game losing streak with a 65-50 win over the Providence Friars on Sunday afternoon. Butler ended the game on a 9-0 scoring run to secure the victory.

A huge 3-point field goal from Blaire Langlois with 1:28 remaining in the fourth quarter allowed Butler to grab momentum for the rest of the contest. Langlois drilled a triple from the wing just steps in front of the home bench at Hinkle Fieldhouse.

The shot went down and the whistle blew as Providence was called for a foul. Aliyah Miller tried to run through the pick as the ball was in the air to give BU a pair of free throws. Belle Obert hit one of two which pushed the lead back to 10 points.

Butler led the entire way, but the Friars were hungry for their first conference win of the season and cut the deficit to just six, before the Langlois triple. Langlois ended the game with 12 points and six rebounds. The three with 1:28 left was her only shot made from distance.

Butler's top performance came from Ward who scored a team-high 16 points while also leading the team in rebounds with nine. The third Bulldog to reach a double figure scoring total was Nicole Orr who added 13 off the bench.

Providence was led by Allegra Botteghi who recorded 15 points and point guard Sarah Beal who ended the game with nine points, four assists and four rebounds.

Butler opened up a 19-13 lead after the first quarter after going on an 8-0 run in the opening frame. Full court defense caused seven first quarter turnovers for the Friars. Providence would end the game with 17 total.

Although Butler led for a large majority of the day, Providence would hang around by outscoring the home team 16-13 in the second quarter. The Friars went into the half on an 11-4 scoring run, but the Bulldogs would manage to hold onto a thin 3-point lead.

That three point lead would double after the completion of the third quarter with BU outscoring PC 14-11 in the third. BU used a 7-0 run to open up a 39-31 lead. Ward came alive to score six of her 16 during the third quarter.

In the end, Butler's team effort was just too much for the visitors to overcome. All seven Bulldogs that saw the court scored at least four points and the Bulldogs were also able to win the points in the paint battle 32-18.
