Box Score 2 Butler split a pair of Sunday contests to close its Spring Break trip to Florida. The Bulldogs went an impressive 6-2 in the Sunshine State and now boast a 14-11 record.
In Sunday's opener, the Bulldogs dropped a 4-1 decision to Southern Illinois. The Salukis pushed across three runs in the top of the seventh to take the win.
Sarah Dixon and Kaitlin Doud each had two hits for the Bulldogs with Doud knocking in Butler's run in the bottom of the fifth to tie the contest at one.
Audrey Turpen got the start and allowed one run in 2.1 innings.
Kacey Starwalt came on in relief and took her first loss of the season; she is now 3-1.
In the closing game of the trip, the Bulldogs got on the board early, using a six-run first inning to take a 6-3 win over UMass-Lowell. Butler batted around in the frame, using three hits and two UML errors to put up the six runs.
Mikeila Boroff went the distance for Butler, improving her record to 4-2. She allowed seven hits in the seven innings. All three UML runs came in the top of the seventh, with one being unearned. Boroff struck out three.
Butler opens the home portion of its schedule Tuesday, hosting Miami (Ohio) for a doubleheader scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
