@ButlerSoftball Takes Series from Seton Hall with Saturday Split

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Butler split a pair of Saturday games with BIG EAST foe Seton Hall Saturday afternoon in Indianapolis. The visiting Pirates won the first game, 3-2, before Butler responded in the back half of the twinbill with a 6-3 decision. Butler is now 19-13 on the season and 2-1 in the first weekend of BIG EAST play. Seton Hall stands at 18-15 (1-2). Butler won the three-game series after winning Friday's opener.

In Butler's win Saturday, the Bulldogs maximized seven hits, including three from third baseman Alyssa Lach.

The Bulldogs manufactured two runs in the bottom of the first, scoring runners from third on bunts on consecutive plays. Butler added a run in the third on Lach's third homer of the season.

Seton Hall would chip into the Butler lead in the fifth behind a two-out, two-run homer by Destini Peck.

But the Bulldogs would create distance in the bottom half of the frame with a Brandyce Sallee solo homer with one out, followed by a bases loaded walk to Audrey Hiner and an RBI single from senior Krosley Ogden.

Mikeila Boroff went the distance for Butler, improving to 5-2 on the season. She allowed three runs on five hits. Madison Strunk took the loss (13-9) for Seton Hall.

In the opener, a pair of solo homers from Seton Hall proved to be the difference. Noel Lent in the third inning and Alex Rabbetts an inning later each connected to put one over the left field fence. The visiting Pirates also got an unearned run in the top of the fourth to take a 3-1 lead.

Butler pulled within one in the bottom of the fourth as pinch hitter Sammy Anderson singled to right center, scoring Chelsea Norwood.

Kristin Gutierrez, off a career-high 14 strikeouts in Friday's win, went six innings for the Bulldogs and took the loss (7-6). She struck out eight while allowing five hits and the three runs (two unearned). Boroff pitched the seventh.

Chrisa Head got the complete game win for Seton Hall, scattering seven hits and the two runs in seven innings of work. She is now 2-1 on the season.

Maggie MacBeth had three hits for Butler. Sallee had the team's other RBI in the opener as her single in the bottom of the third scored Sarah Dixon, who had doubled with one out. That scored the game at one before the Pirates answered with two in the top of the fourth.

The Bulldogs return to action Wednesday with a 5 p.m. first pitch against IUPUI at the Butler Softball Field. The homestand continues next weekend when Providence comes to Indianapolis for three games.
