MILWAUKEE – The Marquette Golden Eagles recorded a 91-53 victory against Butler on Sunday afternoon by shooting 56 percent from the field. The red hot Marquette offense made 12 3-point field goals and came up with an assist on 25 of their 32 made field goals.
Marquette had four players end the game in double figures. Allazia Blockton paced the group with 20 while McKayla Yentz chipped in with 15. Yentz found her groove early to help Marquette build the large lead. She hit her first five shots of the game and also helped on the glass by pulling down six rebounds.
Erika Davenport also played well on the inside for Marquette. Davenport posted a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds. She went head-to-head with
Tori Schickel who led BU with eight points and eight rebounds.
Sydney Buck scored a team-high nine points for Butler off the bench. The junior guard logged 30 minutes of action and posted six assists and three steals.
Head Coach
Kurt Godlevske used the entire roster on Sunday. Eight of the nine players that saw playing time scored at least four points.
Sarah Humphrey scored a career-high seven points on 3-of-5 shooting and
Shae Brey matched her effort with three field goals and seven points.
Butler was held to 30 percent shooting from the field including 25 percent from 3-point range. The Golden Eagles also won the points in the paint battle 38-18.
15 BU turnovers led to 21 Marquette points and the Golden Eagles would push the tempo for the entire 40 minutes to record 28 fast break points.
The Bulldogs will try to regroup when they return to action on Friday, January 20 with a home contest against Villanova. Tip is set for 7 PM on BEDN.
