SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Sunday afternoon's game between Butler and Seton Hall came down to the wire as the Pirates escaped with a two-point victory 65-63. The Bulldogs went on a late 7-0 scoring run to knot the score at 63-63, but Seton Hall would take the ball on the final possession, with the shot clock off, and hit a runner with just two seconds to play. Sydney Buck who got off a clean shot in front of the BU bench. The attempt hit glass first and would not fall for BU giving Seton Hall the win.
Michelle Weaver scored a game-high 25 points, including the final four points of the game for BU. Weaver shot 11-for-19 and added five rebounds.
Tori Schickel also performed well in a Bulldog uniform. Schickel notched her fourth-straight double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds.
Seton Hall was led in scoring by guard JaQuan Jackson. The red-shirt junior came up with 13 points in 28 minutes. Jackson was one of three players to reach double figures for SHU. LaTecia Smith ended the game with 12 and Martha Kuderer added 10 off the bench. Hilaire's game-winner moved her total to seven.
Seton Hall shot the ball extremely well from behind the 3-point line in the opening quarter by connecting on six of their nine attempts (66.7%). The Pirates found room to shoot against the Butler 2-3 zone and would move ahead 22-19 after the opening 10 minutes.
Michelle Weaver highlighted the opening frame for Butler. Weaver scored 10 points on 4-of-5 shooting to net half of BU's points early. Weaver ended the first half with a team-high 14 points while
Tori Schickel chipped in with 10.
The Pirates recorded 13 assists on 15 made field goals in the first half. JaQuan Jackson paced the team with 11 points in 18 minutes, but would be hit with her fourth personal foul with 7:29 to play in the third quarter. The helped Butler go on a 6-0 scoring run, yet the Pirates would hold a 54-49 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
Butler cut the lead down to just three points at 59-56 at the final media timeout with 4:35 remaining. The 7-0 run would pull them even at 63-63, but Hilaire would eventually win the game for Seton Hall.
Butler will return to action on Saturday, Feb. 4 when they host the Xavier Musketeers at Hinkle Fieldhouse.
