MURRAY, Ky. – The Bulldogs improved to 2-0 on the year with an 88-59 win at Murray State on Wednesday afternoon.
Tori Schickel led Butler to victory with 29 points and eight rebounds. Schickel scored the first nine points of the game, allowing BU to start with a 14-0 lead.
Butler shot 61 percent from the field (35-57) in their first road game of the season and knocked down six of their 12 3-point field goals.
Kristen Spolyar and
Michelle Weaver helped shoulder the scoring load against the Racers. Spolyar ended the contest with 18 points on 6-of-7 shooting and Weaver added 10 by hitting five of her six attempts.
Whitney Jennings and
Sydney Shelton were each in the box score with eight points.
Butler never trailed at the CFSB Center. They scored 19 points in the first and second quarters and finished strong by netting 25 points in both the third and fourth quarters.
Team defense forced Murray State to shoot just 32 percent from the field. BU also forced 21 turnovers which would result in 28 points.
Butler will return to action Friday night with a home game against Lipscomb. Tip-off inside Hinkle Fieldhouse is slated for 7 PM.
