MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Butler women's basketball team ended the 2017 Paradise Jam with a 76-62 setback to Drexel in game five of the tournament. Butler played four games in six days over Thanksgiving break, including three-straight at Eastern Florida State College.
The opening minutes of the first quarter would tell the story in this one as Drexel came out shooting 71 percent from 3-point range. The Dragons connected on five 3-pointers over the first 10 minutes of the game to help outscore BU 23-17.
Whitney Jennings would single-handedly try to keep BU within striking distance in the second quarter by scoring 12 of the team's 14 points. Jennings ended the game with 28 points on 12-of-20 shooting.
Tori Schickel also played at a high level with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Schickel would be named to the Paradise Jam all-tournament team at the conclusion of the contest.
Butler's eight-point halftime deficit would shrink down to just five with less than two to play in the third quarter, but a triple from Kelsi Lidge with 55 seconds left would swing the momentum back to Drexel. Lidge led the team with four makes from 3-point range.
Drexel had five players reach a double-figure scoring total to earn the victory. The Dragons ended the game with 11 made 3-point field goals, shooting 47 percent from behind the arc.
Butler will return to action on Wednesday, Nov. 29 with a 7PM road game at Ball State.
