INDIANAPOLIS – The DePaul Blue Demons improved to 22-5 overall and 14-1 in conference play by defeating Butler 92-62 inside Hinkle Fieldhouse on Sunday afternoon. The nationally-ranked Blue Demons forced 26 turnovers which resulted in 28 points.
Butler got off to a great start to build a 14-8 lead midway through the opening quarter, but the Blue Demons would hold the upper hand after the opening 10 minutes 27-16. The second quarter put DePaul in the driver's seat as the Blue Demons outscored Butler 20-9 to take a 47-28 lead into the half.
The third quarter was non-stop action as the two teams combined for 53 points. DePaul notched 27 points while BU exploded for 26. The final 10 minutes featured an 18-11 difference taking us to the final outcome of 92-62.
Butler was led in scoring by freshman guard
Sydney Shelton. Shelton posted a career-high 23 points, making six of her seven total field goals from 3-point range. The only other Bulldog to reach double figures was
Michelle Weaver who ended the game with 12 points, six rebounds and two steals.
Butler's
Tori Schickel nearly posted a double-double with nine points and nine rebounds. The only double-double of the game belonged to DePaul's Brooke Schulte who paced the Blue Demons with 23 points and 11 rebounds.
Amarah Coleman once again stepped up for DePaul in a leadership role with 18 points, three rebounds and three assists. DePaul also got 15 points out of Chante Stonewell who logged 23 minutes of playing time off the bench.
Butler will return to action next weekend with a game at Georgetown on Friday night. The team will then travel to Philadelphia to face the Villanova Wildcats on Sunday afternoon.
