In an effort to align with recommendations from the Department of Homeland Security and the FBI, Butler University will continue enhanced safety initiatives for events at Hinkle Fieldhouse this fall. These initiatives include the addition of walk-through metal detectors, known as magnetometers, at each entrance to Hinkle Fieldhouse.
Â
The use of these metal detectors will begin with the upcoming Butler men's basketball season.
AS OF FALL 2020,  A CLEAR BAG POLICY IS IN EFFECT FOR ALL GAMES AT HINKLE FIELDHOUSE.Â
Â
These changes come in response to the Department of Homeland Security and the FBI recommending increased security in sport and entertainment venues across the country. Butler continues to take steps to enact industry-standard policies that prioritize the safety of fans at events. These resources are not in response to any specific threat, but rather in an effort to align Butler's safety practices with the recommendations of the DHS and FBI.
Â
In addition to requiring the least amount of screening time, the walk-through magnetometers have been determined by studies to be less intrusive and more effective than wanding each individual fan as they enter the venue.
Â
Gates open 90 minutes prior to tip-off for men's basketball games. Butler Athletics appreciates fans factoring in a few additional minutes to their arrival time and for fans' patience as they enter the Fieldhouse, where both safety and fan experience continues to be incredibly important.
Â
