EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – Butler moved to 18-8 overall on Sunday afternoon after taking a 3-2 loss to Creighton.
Tyler Houston and
Michael Hartnagel each hit solo home runs in the setback.
Houston went 3-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored in game two of the series and Hartnagel would round out Butler's hit total with a 2-for-3 effort from the dish.
Creighton scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the fourth, but a two-out homer to left from Houston would knot the score at 1-1. Creighton responded with a run in the bottom of the fifth off an RBI single to regain the lead 2-1. The advantage wouldn't last as Hartnagel homered to left to lead off the sixth inning.
The solo home runs wouldn't be enough at the end of the day with Creighton winning the game in the bottom of the seventh with an RBI double down the right field line.
Ragan picked up the win for CU and Boyer was credited with a save. The loss went to
Quentin Miller (0-2).
Butler used four arms on the day with
Garrett Christman getting the start. Christman tossed 6.1 innings, striking out five.
Joe Graziano came in after the Miller appearance for an out and
Jack Pilcher would toss the final inning.
Butler will return to action on Tuesday, April 10 with a single game at Fort Wayne. Their next home game is Wednesday, April 11 against Morehead State.
