The Butler cross country team faced tough competition on Friday at the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational. The Bulldogs competed against some of the top teams in the country, turning in solid times.
The Bulldog women finished 26
th as a team. Nationally-ranked teams took the top spots with No. 2 Colorado winning the team race with 90 points, followed by No. 5 Boise State (91), and No. 1 New Mexico (130). No. 8 Villanova (156) and No. 9 Arkansas (173) round out the top five.
Josephine Thestrup was the first Bulldog to cross the line, trekking the course in 21:04.7 to finish 82
nd overall. Angelina followed in a time of 21:39.6 (146
th).
Maddie McLain (21:52.7, 163
rd),
Margo Hornocker (21:59.6, 170
th), and
Camille Hines (22:04.2, 174
th) were the final Bulldog point scorers.
Alicia Monson of Wisconsin took the top individual spot with a time of 19:33.3, followed by Weini Kelati (19:35.9), and Ednah Kurgat (19:38.8) from New Mexico. Colorado's Dani Jones took the fourth spot in a time of 19:39.6 and Boise State's Allie Ostrander took fifth with a time of 19:40.4.
The Butler men finished 25
th as a team with top-ranked No. 1 Northern Arizona taking the first spot with 46 points. The host team No. 9 Wisconsin finished second with 135 points followed by No. 3 Portland with 140 points. No. 5 Iowa State (152) and No. 26 Boise State (160) finished fourth and fifth, respectively.
Euan Makepeace and
Bobby Johnson each finished in the top 100 with Makepeace (24:09.4) crossing the first for the Bulldogs and 64th overall. Johnson followed with a time of 24:22.5 to take 84
th overall.

th) round out the Bulldog five.
Wisconsin swept the individual titles as Morgan McDonald took the top spot for the men with a time of 23:17.6. Edwin Kurgat of Iowa State followed a second later with a time of 23:18.5. Northern Arizona's Tyler Day finished third in a time of 23:21.3. Eastern Kentucky's James Sugira (23:22.3) and Northern Arizona's Luis Grijalva (23:23.8) finished fourth and fifth, respectively.
The Bulldogs are back in action on Oct. 12 competing in the Bradley Pink Classic in Peoria, Ill.
