The Butler men and (rv) women's cross country teams competed at the NCAA Pre-Nationals on Saturday, Oct. 19. The women claimed eighth of 37 programs while the men took 18
th of 38 teams.

Women's Race
The women's eighth place finish put them in front of several ranked programs, including No. 11 Boise State, No. 17 Ole Miss, No. 26 Boston College and No. 30 Oklahoma State.

"We were buried early off a quick start and our women did a great job of keeping their composure," said head coach
Matt Roe. "They systematically moved through the field and picked up spots throughout the race. It was fantastic team effort and another step forward."

Emily Royston led the pack of Bulldogs, taking 18
th overall with a time of 20:34.7.Â
Josephine Thestrup (21.01.9),
Angelina Ellis (21.05.5) and
Maddie McLain (21:06.5) all finished within a few seconds of each other, taking 61
st, 65
th, and 68
th respectively.

Camille Hines rounded out the Bulldogs top five, finishing at 21:28.5 for 99
th in the field.
Margo Hornocker (21:46.8) and
Mia Beckham (22:21.7) completed the Butler seven.

No. 8 Washington took the team title with 84 points. No. 2 BYU came in second with a total of 87, followed by No. 3 Colorado with 129 points.

Men's Race
Euan Makepeace paced the Bulldog men to an 18
th place finish in a field that featured 10 ranked programs. Makepeace came in at 26
th with a time of 24:04.9.

Simon Bedard was the second Bulldog across the line, clocking in at 24.34.0 for 66
th in the field.
Clark Otte was close behind (85
th) with a time of 24.43.
Â
Daniel Lawton (25.12.6) and
Eric Baugh (25.56.5) completed the Bulldogs scorers.
Matthew Wigelsworth was the sixth Bulldog finisher at 26.00.2, while
James Sweeney did not finish.

"We had a solid running up front through our first three," said coach Roe. "We were one man short of placing 12
th-14
th, a result we are capable of achieving. Adding
Jackson Martin back into the line-up and continuing to grow these next two weeks will help achieve a result befitting of our fitness."

Cardinal Classic
The Butler men also sent a group of runners to compete at Ball State on Friday, Oct. 18. The team took second overall, finishing just behind first place Miami-Ohio and well in front of third place Transylvania.
Blake Roberts led the Butler group with a sixth place individual finish with a time of 26.20.2.
Jacob McKenna took eighth, clocking in at 26.38.9.

Chandler McGaha (26.53.3),
Nick Robie (27.15.5), and
Trey Harris (27.42.4) completed the Bulldogs five scorers.
Lascelles Hussey (28.03.2) was the sixth finisher for Butler.

Next Up:
Both the men and (rv) women will compete next weekend at the Bulldog Invite, hosted by Butler. The meet is scheduled for Friday (Oct. 25) at the Northview Church in Carmel, Ind. The women's race will begin at 4:30 p.m., followed by the men's race immediately after (approximately 5 p.m.).
