In cold and partially snow-covered conditions,
Euan Makepeace won the men's 8K race at the 2019 BIG EAST Cross Country Championships. The senior's gold-medal run paced the team to a third place finish, behind Villanova and Georgetown.
Makepeace posted his third career top 10 finish at the BIG EAST Championship. Makepeace finished fifth last year and was third in 2016.Â
Making It Look Easy
Makpeace cruised to a first place finish in the men's race, leading the field of runners for nearly the entire 8K. He clocked in at 25:03.9, over 30 seconds ahead of Villanova's Nathan Rodriguez, who crossed the line at 25:38.7 for second place.
"It's pretty special," said Makepeace in the post-race interview. "I raced on this course a few years ago and it didn't really go to plan, so to come back and take the win, it's big. I have been out here five years and I have never clinched this title, so to do it in my last year- it's really big and I'm really happy."
Roe on the Meet
"Our men had their best race of the season when it mattered. I am really happy for them," said coach
Matt Roe. "They have been training well and this result is confirmation of their hard work."
"If Euan had been healthy on this course two years ago, we would have won the team title. That was a bitter day, but it didn't make him bitter, it made him better. Today's dominant win was more than vindication for him. It was a testament to his character. I couldn't be prouder of him as an athlete and a person."

Simon Bedard was the next Bulldog across the line, coming in seventh overall with time of 25:51.1.Â
