The Butler cross country team will send three individual qualifiers to the 2019 NCAA Championships in Terre Haute, Ind. on Saturday, Nov. 23.

Simon Bedard, and
Emily Royston will represent the Bulldogs against the best teams and individuals in the country at the LaVern Gibson Championship Course.

Regional Recap
Coming off a BIG EAST individual championship, Makepeace headlined for the Bulldogs again at regionals, taking second in the men's race with a time of 30:05.5. Bedard came in 20 slots later for a 22
nd individual finish, clocking in at 30:52.3. Royston paced the women's team and finished 17
th, trekking the course in 20:50.4.
The three runners all finished within the top 25 at the Great Lakes Regional, receiving USTFCCCA All-Region Honors.

Second Lap at LaVern Gibson
Saturday will be the second time this season the Bulldogs have raced in Terre Haute, Ind. Butler competed at the NCAA Pre-Nationals in October in the men's and women's Blue Race, against over 20 nationally ranked teams.
The women posted an eighth-place finish, ahead of (former) No. 11 Boise State, No. 17 Ole Miss, No. 26 Boston College and No. 30 Oklahoma State. Royston was the top female finisher, taking 18th overall with a time of 20:34.7.
The men took 17
th as a team in a race that featured 10 ranked opponents. Makepeace (24:04.9) was the top Bulldog in the men's race, taking 26
th individually, followed by Bedard, clocking in at 24.34.0 for 66th in the field.

Last Year: 2018 NCAA Championships
Makepeace closed out the 2018 cross country season at the NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships, trekking the field on his own pace as the only Bulldog to qualify. He finished 109th with a time 30:42.32, in a field of 255 elite runners.

Qualification Breakdown
Makepeace, Bedard and Royston all received automatic individual bids, taking one of the top four spots (in the top 25) outside of those members who were part of qualifying teams.

A total of 31 teams compete as a team at the NCAA DI Championships on both the men's and women's side. 18 bids are automatic (top two teams in each of nine regions), 13 bids are at-large.

After teams have been determined, 38 additional individuals per gender are selected to compete at the NCAA Championships. Among individuals not selected as members of qualifying teams in the above process, the top four finishers at each regional meet are automatically selected (each must have finished within the top 25 of the region). Two additional athletes will be selected from the remainder of the national pool (and must have finished in the regional top 25) as at-large individuals.

Meet Information
The women's race will begin at 11:15 a.m. (ET), followed by the men's race at 12:15 p.m. (ET).
Admission to the event is $10 per person (cash only) and there are no in advance ticket sales. Fans are encouraged to arrive early to allow adequate time for parking at the LaVern Gibson Championship Course. Â
