How It Happened
Butler ended the first quarter on a 13-6 scoring run, highlighted by five-straight points from
Oumou Toure. The true freshman checked into the game and quickly came up with a steal that resulted in two points on the other end. The next possession featured a made 3-pointer from Toure to give BU a six-point lead.
BU enjoyed a 19-11 advantage after the first quarter, but the Jags would close the gap to just five at the first media timeout. IUPUI would take their first lead of the game at 29-28 with 1:19 remaining in the opening half. They outscored BU 18-9 to take that lead and would go on to outscore BU in the frame 21-14.
The Bulldogs saw their slim 33-32 halftime advantage disappear in the third quarter in part to a scoring run fueled by 3-point shooting. Natalie Anderson came off the bench to hit three 3-pointers against the Bulldogs, helping the Jaguars open up a three-point lead going into the final 10 minutes.
3-point shooting was the theme of the night on Wednesday as
Kristen Spolyar would connect from distance to tie the game at 54-54. The biggest shots of the night would follow off the hot hand of
Genesis Parker. The BU guard hit her fifth 3-pointer of the game with 4:21 left to give BU a two-point lead. The next trip down she would hit another triple to break a 58-58 tie with 3:32 to go in the contest.
The Bulldog defense limited IUPUI to just 11 total points in the fourth and free throw shooting would take them to the winner's column to keep their undefeated season alive.
