DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Bulldogs grinded out a 60-55 win on day two of the Daytona Beach Invitational by defeating the Ohio Bobcats.
Genesis Parker came off the bench to lead Butler with 17 points.
Parker went 9-for-12 from the free throw line and 2-for-3 from distance to net her team-high 17 points.
Kristen Spolyar and
Oumou Toure would also finish the contest in double figures with 17 and 13 points respectively. Toure started for the first time in her BU career and would end the day with a double-double by adding a team-high 12 rebounds.
10 of Parker's 17 points would come in the first half. The Bulldogs slowed down the tempo in this one and would enjoy a lead for much of the opening 20 minutes. Ohio would eventually take a one-point lead into the break by ending the half on an 8-0 scoring run.
Turnovers helped spark the late Ohio scoring run. The Bobcats forced 14 first half turnovers and scored 15 of their 25 points off those BU miscues.
Butler got a lift from Toure in the third quarter to outscore Ohio 19-15 and take a three-point lead into the final 10 minutes. Toure scored nine of her 13 points in the frame and was the only Bulldog to make more than one field goal in the quarter.

Kurt Godlevske went to his senior in crunch time and she would deliver. Spolyar scored five of Butler's first six points in the fourth, giving BU a 49-42 advantage with 5:09 left in the game.
Upe Atosu would get a steal and a score out of an Ohio timeout and give Butler their largest lead of the game at 51-42. The game would tighten up with Ohio's Amani Burke hitting shots down the stretch. She led all players with 30 points.
Burke's sixth 3-pointer of the game would move the score to 58-55.
Katherine Strong would step to the line and ice the victory moments later however with a pair of free throws on BU's next possession.
Butler will return to Hinkle Fieldhouse on Sunday, Dec. 8 with a 2 PM contest against the Akron Zips.
