‘Dawgs Post 85-58 Win over Purdue Fort Wayne


INDIANAPOLIS – The Butler Bulldogs picked up an 85-58 victory over Purdue Fort Wayne on Sunday to improve to 8-3 on the season. Kristen Spolyar paced the group with a game-high 27 points. Spolyar added seven rebounds, two assists and two steals in 33 minutes of work.
 
Upe Atosu and Oumou Toure would join Spolyar in double figures with 18 and 14 points respectively. Toure notched a double-double by adding a team-best 12 rebounds. BU shared the ball on Sunday, passing out 20 assists on 33 made field goals. Shae Brey led the team in that category with seven.
 
Butler went on two separate 8-0 runs in the first quarter to claim a 22-13 lead after 10 minutes. Upe Atosu jumped in the starting lineup for the first time this season and scored 10 of her 18 points in the first frame. BU forward Katherine Strong was inactive today allowing Atosu to play 29 minutes.
 
The second quarter played out much like the first with BU winning that 10-minute streth 21-10. Atosu stayed hot leading BU with eight points in the quarter.
 
The Bulldog lead would grow to 33 in the third quarter and the final buzzer would sound with BU leading by 27. BU dominated on the inside by scoring 46 of their 85 points in the paint. They also knocked down nine 3-point field goals led by Atosu with four and Spolyar with three from distance.
 
Butler forced 20 turnovers while limiting themselves to just 11 in that category. The 'Dawgs will now shift their focus to BIG EAST action. They host Seton Hall a week from today on Dec. 29. Tip is set for 2 PM.
