The Bulldogs took a 13-12 loss on Sunday afternoon to Gardner-Webb. This is the first of three games in less than a week for Butler. With the win, Gardner-Webb moves to 3-2. The Bulldogs fall to 2-5.
Gardner-Webb used a 10-goal first half to build a strong 10-4 lead over the Bulldogs heading into halftime. Butler used eight goals in the second half comeback, but fell short by one.
Karina Latsko scored the first goal of the game just two minutes into the first half off an assist from
Haley Hallenbeck. Gardner-Webb went on a 3-0 run before
Sydney Pattison broke up the run with her fourth goal of the season.
Ashley Guerra and
Holly Hall scored Butler's third and fourth goals, respectively, of the half. Hall's cut GWU's lead to 7-4 with just over six minutes to go in the first half. GWU scored three goals in the final six minutes to take the 10-4 lead into half.
GWU began the second half with a goal to take an 11-4 lead. The Bulldogs then exploded with an 8-0 run to take the lead back at 12-11.
Ashley Steffes started the run with her fourth goal of the season. Latsko, Hall,
Lindsey Schreiber, Pattison, and Hallenbeck each added a goal, while
Katelyn Murphy added two. Hallenbeck scored the final goal of the Bulldog comeback with 8:37 to go in the second half.
From there, GWU scored two late goals to take the win. The game-winner was scored by Tori Burks off a free position shot with two minutes to play.
For GWU, Jada Preston and Talen Francis each tallied three goals. Katie Sylvester (3-2) received the win in goal.
Latsko, Pattison, Hall, and Murphy all had two goals for the Bulldogs.
Amanda Rumsey saw the first half in goal for Butler, allowing 10 goals on five saves.
Katie McGrath went in for the second half, making six saves and allowing three goals. She received the loss in goal and is now 0-1 on the season.
Butler continues its road trip Wednesday, taking on Wofford at 5 p.m. in Spartanburg, S.C.
